General News Clashes Over Asafo Terminal Land: STC, GPRTU Given Ultimatum To Produce Documents
OCT 18, 2017 LISTEN

Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has given feuding factions, STC bus services and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) up till Thursday to present documentation backing their claims over the Asafo terminal.

The deadline was the outcome of a meeting called by REGSEC to resolve the dispute over a parcel of land after the two groups clashed last Monday.

Some VIP workers, who are part of the GPRTU, physically prevented STC drivers from using a parcel of land close to the terminal.

They also prevented a bus loaded with passengers from moving, with both transport groups claiming ownership of the area in dispute.

Board Member of STC, Samuel Oppong told Joy News Monday, "we paid for space" while GPRTU PRO Lukman Ansah maintained the land has not been sold to anyone under any circumstances.

But after a meeting with the feuding sides, chairman of REGSEC and Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah told Joy News he is confident a lasting resolution will be reached on the matter.

He said REGSEC is expected to meet on Friday to scrutinise their documentation adding "we are hopeful that by the end of the week we would have resolved everything".

Mr Osei Mensah is confident that the parties will keep their word not to engage in any "indiscipline act" until the issue is resolved.

He, however, pointed to some "fundamental issues" between the factions but would not explain publicly what these issues are.
