Gas Explosions in Ghana, "Never Again"

Feature Article Gas Explosions in Ghana, Never Again
OCT 9, 2017 LISTEN

Citi 97.3 fm radio station reported that there have been eight (8) recorded gas explosions in Ghana within three years (2014-2017).

Committees were set up to investigate the causes of the explosions and offer recommendations to forestall future explosions.

What happened to the findings of these Committees?
Whose responsibility was it to implement the findings?

Were any compensations paid to the victims and/or their families?

How easy is it to obtain a permit to build a gas station?

How close should gas stations be to residential areas?

How effective is the Environmental Protection Agency's monitoring system?

Should the laws on the siting of gas stations be reviewed?

It is a known fact that we Ghanaians score low on compliance and maintenance. Based on this "fact", I recommend that,

1. all gas stations be relocated to the outskirts of our towns and cities,

2. all the gas stations should be on land designated for such purposes,

3. there should be no dwellings within a given radius of the gas stations (maybe one mile).

After the flood which destroyed the earth, God said, "...Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth", (Genesis 9:11, NKJV).

When terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center Towers in New York, USA, on 11th September, 2001, the Americans vowed,"Never Again".

How many more gas explosions would cause us to vow, "Never Again"?
