ExLA Group Gender Programme is pleased to announce to all major stakeholders and the general public that Dr. Maxine Houinato, Resident Representative of UN Women for Mali will represent the UN Women and will be the guest speaker for the ‘UN Women Day’ of the second edition of the Young African Women Congress.

This is in line with UN Women’s endorsement of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) and general goodwill established through previous engagements. Last year, the UN Women was represented by Ms. Comfort Lamptey, the then Regional Policy Adviser for UN Women West and Central Africa Office (WCARO) who participated in almost all activities of the congress. The 2017edition of YAWC is scheduled for 23rd to 27th Julyat the University of Ghana Law School Auditorium.

Dr. Houinato once served as the Deputy Regional Director for UN Women, West and Central Africa Office (WCARO) for 6 years. He has been the Resident Representative for UN Women in Mali since 2014 and has championed several leadership programmes in the area of governance, business and peace and security to encourage and promoteyoung women in leadership.

Dr. MaximeHouinato, a Benin national, will speak on the topic,Implementation Road Map For Agenda 2030: Strengthening Women’s Participation In Decision-making” at the ‘UN Women Day’ on Tuesday 25th July, 2017 at the University of Ghana Law Faculty.He will also officially receive the congress whitepaper that would stem from various groups brainstorming sessions at the congress.

The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2017 has been put together by the ExLA Group under its Gender Unit for young African women, 18 to 40 years. It is packed with a lot of exciting activities including Keynote Presentation, Panel Discussion, Personal Perspectives, Group Sessions, Career Fair, Culture Night, Exhibition of Products and Services and a full day tour among others.

These will take place under the theme, “Harnessing Africa’s Demographic Dividend: The Case for Women in Leadership”. Participation is opened to all African women within the age identified limits.Visit www.yawcafrica.org for more information.
