Ho, June19, GNA - MTN Ghana, a telecommunications service provider is leading the digital revolution in Ghana with the increment of 4G sites, fibre optic extension and a rural telephony solution for underserved areas.

Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of the Company said 197 4G sites would be added this year to augment the existing 475 to meet the increasing demand for high speed data services and network stability.

'Our vision is to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world which means that we are delivering the digital revolution to Ghanaians. As the demand for data, video and all other services expand, we have to ensure that the network is robust enough to carry and meet that demand', Mrs Lumor said at an annual Volta Regional Editors Forum in Ho.

She said the Company was working on fibre extension programme along the Eastern Corridor and upgrading existing sites in view of a universal access plan.

Mrs Lumor said solar was being considered as power backup for the close to 3,000 sites, especially in the rural areas and that the Company was concentrating on 55 rural sites for a start.

She said MTN made GHȼ2.7 million last year and gave back GHȼ1.1 billion in taxes and other payments to the country.

Mrs Lumor said the network covered 83 per cent of the country's population and said efforts were being made to reduce fibre cuts, increase operational efficiency and curb incidents of mobile money fraud to reach more people.

She said the Company would undertake 16 social intervention projects in the Volta Region this year, which would benefit over 300,000 people.

Mrs Lumor said MTN Foundation, the Company's corporate social responsibility management structure in nine years rolled out over 140 projects ranging from health, education and economic interventions with more to come this year.
