Footprint gives out thief and lands him in jail

Kumasi, May 17, GNA - The footprint left on the floor of the crime scene by an employee of the Pyramid Veneer Limited in Kumasi who broke into the store of the company and made away with two chainsaw machines valued at 20 million cedis has given him out and landed him in jail. Kingsley Arthur, 28, is serving a 24-month imprisonment after his conviction by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr Essel Mensah. He pleaded guilty to stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Yaw Amofa told the Court that the accused worked with the company as a chainsaw machine operator.

After the close of work on May 11, he put the machines in one of the stores, locked the door and left for the house.

The next morning it was detected that the store had been broken into and the two machines stolen. The thief left the footprint on the floor.

Management invited its four employees, including the accused who had access to the store, to check if the footprint of any of them matched that on the floor.

That worked as Arthur's footmark perfectly fitted into it and when confronted he admitted the offence.

The police are looking for an accomplice who is on the run. 17 May 05
