The Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) of the Kumasi South Hospital, Philomena Kwayie and Dr Patience Fletcher, an eye specialist have been confirmed dead in Saturday’s accident at Akyem Anyinase in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.
The deceased persons including three others who sustained various degrees of injuries were on their way to mourn with the family of one Dr Kofi Asare, a former colleague at Akyem Wenchi but were involved in the fatal accident when a Kia 60-seater bus reportedly failed its brakes and rammed into their Toyota Fortuner.
Dr Kwame Boadu , Mr Larbi and the driver of the Fortuner vehicle who survived the accident are currently responding to treatment on admission at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi .
Passengers on-board Kia bus who also sustained several degrees of injuries were however taken to the Oda Government Hospital for treatment.
Police have confirmed the incident and indicated that the driver of the bus is in their custody assisting them in investigations.
