Homaho (C/R), April 27, GNA - Nana Duodu Amoah II, the chief of Assin Homaho, a community in the Assin South District, has appealed for the inclusion of Homaho D/A Basic School in the school feeding programme.

He said this would ensure that more children enrol and are retained in school.

Nana Amoah II said this during a community durbar to discuss issues affecting the development of education in the area.

The durbar was attended by chiefs, religious leaders, teachers, journalists and school children.

Nana Duodu said the high levels of poverty in the area has forced many kids out of school.

"Some of them on a daily basis trek long distances to school on empty stomachs and this has become a disincentive - affecting the development of education in the area."

"Providing them at least one hot meal a day would bring immense relief to the pupils", he said.

Mr Robert Aheto, Headteacher of the school, said some parts of the building has developed cracks with some window frames and doors hanging loosely hence the need to renovate the entire school.

Another issue of great concern, he said, was encroachment on school lands and called for immediate action to protect the assets of the school.

Mr Frank Boahin, Assemblyman for the area, pledged to work diligently with the authorities to remedy the situation.
