General News Army Recruitment Process Witnesses Mad Rush For Jobs
APR 27, 2017 LISTEN

There is an apparent mad rush by the youth for scratch cards in order to process the necessary documents to be recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Hundreds of them since the announcement was made earlier this week, have always queued at sales points for several hours waiting for their turn to be served but some middlemen have taken undue advantage of the situation to buy the scratch cards in bulk and are now in turn selling them to prospective candidates at throat cutting prices.

The military command announced that each scratch card for the online registration is supposed to sell for Hundred Ghana Cedis but it was observed that this directive had been defied in some instances due to the mad rush.

Unemployed males and females seeking to be recruited besieged the numerous regional post offices in the country to buy scratch cards above advertised price.

Mynewsgh.com spoke to some stranded applicants lined up at the Adum Post Office to buy their cards and some were quoted as saying “when you go to the counter the post office officials tell you that scratch cards are finished but if you go to the internet cafes you get one at Ghc150.00”

Reporters’ checks at designated post offices revealed the scratch cards are being hoarded and deliberately sold out to prospective recruits by through middlemen who are operators of various internet cafés.

Many of the desperate youth our reporters spoke to urged the military to step in and save the face of the recruitment exercise left in the hands of corrupt postal agents and their conspirators who are café operators.

They were also left wondering if the Armed Forces can absorb the teeming youth especially at the time government is facing economic hardships.
