How Ew Is The Ghanaian Leader, Nana Akufo-Addo?
22.04.2017 LISTEN

Every democracy thrives on the freedom of the people to choose its leaders. But the people’s decision to choose, if sacrificed on the altar of ignorance, will definitely impair the security of all.

The Ghanaian leader, Nana Akufo-Addo is touted to be a freedom fighter, a believer in the rule of law and a human right advocate. Undoubtedly, his loyalists and praise singers will mince no words defending those values and principles he firmly believes in.

Unfortunately, the breakdown of law and order under his leadership as president and Commander-In Chief of the Ghana Arm Forces, clearly points to the contrary. The rise in political insurgence in the name of party vigilantism purporting to prevent crime and protect public properties is very vexatious.

The activity of the so called vigilante groups- Invincible forces, Delta forces, Action troopers, Bamba boys, Bolga bull dogs and the Kandahar boys is giving the dog a bad name. The beauty of our democracy and its enviable credential should not be marred by such tendencies.

The worry of every well-meaning Ghanaian now is the total security of the nation. What happens if substantial number of these party thugs are absorbed into our national security outfit?

Few minutes after his inauguration on January 7, 2017, the Voice of America (VOA) reported on their tweeter feed “ew Ghanaian President Sworn In.” I was very skeptical in seeing the headline because my president can’t be disgusting and nauseating.

But recent happenings as a result of the party’s vigilante groups give some credence to the VOA headline. The president, in his State of the nation address openly condemned those actions and admonished the security services to do their professional job. It was laudable but very late.

Rome they say was not built in a day. The president has indeed confirmed he is in hurry to fix the economy.

But his 100 days in office has been a mixture of toxin and honey. Honey, for putting in place his 110 ministers

The toxic mixture in the activities of the vigilante groups in attacking the court in sitting, and assaulting the pillars of power is a serious dent on the government.

As a concerned citizen, I am appealing to the president to walk his talk, and to empower the security agencies to disband all unlawful party vigilante groups without fear of victimization.

The past 100 incubating period of the government can best be described as a period of thuggery, security breach and show of para militarism under the watch of a giant dwarf.

Mr. President, we can’t live in a state where might is strength. You have a legacy to protect. We are envisaging that Ghana where actions will be dealt with within the remit of the law and not based on political coloration; the Ghana which will be transformed and developed in freedom.

Sincerely yours,
