Parents warned against lack of control

Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), April 5, GNA - Parents must not lose control especially on their female children by giving them too much freedom, Naakye Dede Akaabie XIV, Queen Mother of the Awutu Traditional Area, has said.

She noted that this was the best means of checking the alarming rate of indiscipline and teenage pregnancies in the country. Naakye Dede Akaabie who was addressing members of the Awutu Youth Club at Awutu-Bawjiase at the weekend.

Apart from contributing to the population explosion, teenage pregnancy is a setback to the individual and their families and has serious the social and economic implication on the society, she stated. The Queen Mother said it was the duty of parents to ensure that their children, particularly the females, were given good training at home to guarantee their future and that of their families as well. Lieutenant Daniel K. Osardu, former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu-Effutu-Senya and Chief Patron of the Club, called on the youth to take past leaders of the town who contributed to the development of the area as their role models.

The former DCE noted that this would enable the younger generation to chart a useful path to facilitate the development of Bawjiase. Mr Isaac Yaw Otabil, President of the Club, advised the youth to respect and treat the elderly with dignity not only in the Traditional Area but in all that they did to create an excellent image for the Club, their parents and the town.
