Samson Arhi, Member of Parliament for Bodi has slammed President Akufo-Addo for plagiarizing speeches of former American presidents, Bill Clinton and George Walker Bush.

According to the MP, the episode at the inaugural ceremony of the president on Saturday was embarrassing and represented shoddy work by his speechwriters.

Speaking on Okay FM, Mr Arhin said the NPP would have made a meal out of it, if it was former President Mahama who had plagiarized someone’s speech.

“Only God knows what would have happened in this country if President Mahama had plagiarized someone’s speech.

“They tell us they have the men to manage the affairs of this country, but they fell short on this simple task of acknowledging people in their speech. Supporters of the NPP should stop defending this now that they rendered an apology,” the MP said.

Moments after the president’s swearing in ceremony in Accra, news went viral that there were striking similarities between Akufo-Addo's speech and those delivered by two former United States Presidents.

Portions of Nana Akufo-Addo’s speech were the exact words of ex-Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.

The quote, “I ask you to be citizens, not spectators...,” which was uttered by Nana Akufo-Addo during his inaugural speech has been attributed to Presidents Woodrow Wilson and later George Bush.

The office of President Akufo-Addo subsequently issued an apology, admitting to lifting words without acknowledgment.
