... A-G directs police to investigate bribery allegation Sekondi -- The attorney general and minister of justice, Papa Owusu Ankomah says he has directed the police to invite the heart surgeon, Prof. Frimpong Boateng to give a comprehensive report about his allegation that officials of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) take bribe in the course of discharging their legitimate duties.

Disclosing this to newsmen at a press soiree he organized for them at his residence in Sekondi recently, Owusu Ankomah said the invitation of Prof.

Boateng who is also the chief executive of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital did not amount to arrest or any intimidation except that he wanted the heart surgeon to give the police evidence that would help them carry out thorough invitations into the allegations he made against the SFO.

The attorney general further told the reporters that the SFO falls directly under his ministry, therefore he could not have sat down unconcerned when such a serious allegation had been made against an institution that is supposed to fight against corruption.

He hinted that any staff of the SFO who would be found guilty of the allegation made by the Korle Bu chief executive after police investigations would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

When asked why he had chosen to investigate this particular allegation made by the heart surgeon, he said the allegation was serious and should not be allow to wash away.

Prof. Boateng recently told Adom FM, a Tema-based private radio station that some of the SFO officials were corrupt. According to him, one of his staff who was being investigated by the SFO on the allegation of material diversion reportedly sold a parcel of land and used the proceeds to bribe the SFO officials to influence the outcome of their investigations.

Interestingly, when The Chronicle published the allegations he made against the SFO, Prof. Frimpong beat a quick retreat and denied ever making such serious allegations during the interview with Adom on September 23, this year.

During an interview on Gold Fm based in Accra, the Korle-Chief Executive denied ever leveling corruption against the SFO and accusing the Chronicle reporter Jale Dominic of presenting false information to the public.

Contrarily, the play back of the interview at the disposal of The Chronicle news desk picked Prof. Frimpong Boateng accusing the SFO of incompetence and corrupt.
