Church donates to hospital and school

New Longoro (B/A), Nov. 15, GNA -Bishop David Donkor of the New Life Ministry at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region on Sunday donated 120 school uniforms, a large quantity of assorted reading books, Bibles, pencil sharpeners and drugs worth 20 million cedis to selected basic schools in the Wenchi District on behalf of the Ministry. The drugs went to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, while the other items were distributed to Methodist schools at New Longoro and Amponsakrom L/A Primary School.

Later, speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, (GNA) Bishop Donkor indicated that, it was the vision of the Ministry to ensure that children in our rural areas were not left out in receiving and enjoying quality education.

He advised teachers in our educational set up to help inculcate the culture of reading in the pupils and students in the rural areas to be able to compete favourably with their contemporaries in the urban areas. The teachers should also inculcate in their children the importance of environmental hygiene and neatness.

Bishop Donkor added that, it was the determination of the Ministry to improve the health of the people, particularly children, adding, the Ministry in conjunction with the Wenchi Methodist Hospital and the District Education Directorate were undertaking a pilot project on vitamin deficiency programme for Amponsakrom school children. He announced that the Ministry had taken delivery of equipment and chemicals to drill 50 boreholes in Sunyani and Dormaa districts, mentioning Adidase and Kosane in the two districts as communities to benefit from the water project.

Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, Reverend George Fuachie, Resident Methodist Minister at New Longoro thanked Bishop Donkor for the presentations but like "Oliver Twist", he called on the New Life Ministry to provide the New Longoro schools with mechanized boreholes for use by the school children.
