Poor visibilty ends Akro Ako volley ball gala finals

Koforidua (E/R), Jan. 4, GNA - The final match of the volleyball gala organized by the Eastern Regional Volleyball Association between Monster Spikers of Akyem Tafo and Unity Club of Koforidua was called off due to poor visibility.

As at the time the referee called off the match, Monster Spikers of Akyem Tafo were leading Unity of Koforidua by 17 to 11 in the second set and had also won the first set by 25 to 21.

The tournament was organized in collaboration with the sponsors, Akro Ako limited, producers of sportswear.

Okere United Way of Adukrom placed third by beating Akwatia Viber Hands.

Monster Spikers beat Viber Hands two straight sets in the semifinals, 25 to 15 and 25 to 11, whiles, Unity defeated Okere United Way by two sets to one, 25 to 18, 16 to 25 and 19 to 17 to qualify for the finals.

Monster Spikers, prior to their qualification to the semifinals defeated Kpong Youngsters, Crystal Bombers of Begoro and Adukrom in the group stages.

Unity also following their qualification to the semifinals, beat Viber Hands and Nsawam Volleyball Club.

The two finalists, including the third placed team, received sets of jerseys made by the sponsors Akro Ako Limited and volleyballs.

Mr Daniel Kenneth, Chairman of the Eastern Regional Volleyball Association, thanked the sponsor, Akro Ako Limited and the volleyball fraternity for their various contributions towards the success of the gala.

He called on corporate organizations and other benevolent institutions to help sponsor the upcoming Eastern Regional League, which is to kick off at the end of the first quarter of the year.
