Baby Thief Speaks; Faces Kidnapping Charge

The suspected baby thief, Vida Golomesio, 38, has revealed to officials of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale that the infant belongs to her sister.

Golomesio is, however, unable to mention the name of the said sister to police investigators, who are currently interrogating her at the regional offices of DOVVSU in Tamale.

She has also failed to disclose exactly where she was heading to before her arrest by residents of a farming community in the Karaga district of the Northern region.

The Police has hinted that she is likely to be arraigned before court Wednesday and will be provisionally charged for kidnapping.

Relations of 27-year old lactating mother Limah Addo lodged a complaint with the police over the mysterious disappearance of the infant two days after its delivery at the Tamale West Hospital.

The suspect, who had gone to the hospital under the guise of being a social worker, offered to assist the mother of the victim in carrying the baby while she sort the services of a taxi cab to convey them home.

She, however, disappeared with the baby from the premises of the hospital until her arrest early Tuesday upon a tip off by residents who suspected the baby she was carrying was not hers.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh disclosed to starrfmonline.com that the baby is well and being properly catered for by nurses at the Karaga district hospital after several days in captivity.
