The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) is cautioning the general public to be wary of some fake mouthwashes on the market.
The brands ONE TOUCH mouth wash and SAMCODENT contain chemicals meant for cleaning tiles, floors, baths and household surfaces.
According to the FDA the chemical, named as LDC concentrate and registered by GNLD International Ltd has been diluted and being repackaged as mouth wash.
The FDA says it cannot vouch for its efficacy in treating oral diseases and is advising the public to avoid these products.
Senior Regulatory Officer at the FDA Joeffrey Arthur said the product is not supposed to get into contact with the body.
“It is meant for surfaces”, he told Joy News’ Naa Dedei Tettey.
He said the FDA will engage in a mop out exercise at the various markets suspected to have the products.
He added that those arrested for selling the products have been handed over to the police.
