The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has said government will ensure that recent macroeconomic stability is converted into investment growth and job creation for Ghanaians.
He noted that despite improvements in key economic indicators, youth unemployment remains a major pressure point that requires urgent attention.
Dr. Ato Forson made the remarks during a meeting with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation on Wednesday, April 29, as discussions began on the sixth review of Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility programme.
He stressed the need to sustain reforms while creating a conducive environment for the private sector to expand and absorb more labour.
“Our path forward is therefore deliberate: we must ensure that stability translates into more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for all,” he said.
The Finance Minister described the country's economic journey since the 2022 crisis as difficult but progressive, crediting reforms and fiscal discipline for the current gains.
He said the country has restored credibility and rebuilt confidence in its economic management.
“Together, we have stabilised the economy. We have restored credibility. We have given renewed hope to the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
Dr. Ato Forson cautioned, however, that the progress made does not eliminate risks, particularly unemployment, which he described as the most pressing challenge.
He added that government will take further policy decisions aimed at strengthening reforms, boosting investor confidence and ensuring sustained economic recovery.
