Axim (W/R) Sept.20, GNA- Farmers cultivating the Miracle Berry Plant, popularly called "Asaaba", in the Nzema East and Wassa West Districts of the Western Region, have appealed to the Executive, to include the plant in the President's Special Initiatives (PSI).

They contended that a PSI on the plant also known as "Synsepalum Dulcificum", would offer farmers ready market for their produce. Mr Sampson Blay, the Vice Chairman of the Regional Miracle Berry Farmers Association, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Axim that the plant has great medicinal value and could also be processed into powder for confectionary.

He said Bio-Resources Limited a local company was currently the only buyer of the produce although the Association was negotiating with some Japanese companies to expand the market.

Mr David Okine, the Regional Director of Food and Agriculture, told the GNA that Ghana could derive enormous benefits from the crop.
