Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is ready for a showdown with its Member of Parliament (MP) for Afram Plains North, Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye, in court after being served with a writ aimed at stopping its impending congress.

The ruling party has scheduled December 20 for its national delegates' conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, to elect national officers such as chairman, general secretary and organiser, among others.

Over 100 people are vying for a little over 20 positions in the Functional Executive Committee of the party.

The party's Director of Communication, James Asante, confirmed that the party had received the writ of summons and was poised to face its disgruntled member in court next week—the same week the conference is supposed to take place.

Mr Asante was however optimistic that the congress would come off, stressing that the court case would never be 'a hindrance,' while speaking to Accra-based Citi FM .

'We live in a country where the rule of law prevails so somehow it will be determined by the decision of the court and I am sure that is why they are raising concerns.'

He advised that 'any decision by the court, we have to abide by it but I confidently believe that we will go through that and overcome.'

The MP for Afram Plains North, Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye, claims he was unfairly disqualified from contesting the national organiser position.

The disqualified aspirant is accusing the vetting committee of acting unconstitutionally regarding his disqualification and wants the court to place an injunction on the national congress until the matter is resolved.

Meanwhile, he has pooh-poohed the attempt by the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Tawiah Boateng, to summon him before the disciplinary committee of the party for hauling it (party) before court.

Mr Boateng threatened to summon the MP before the disciplinary committee of the party for flouting the party's constitution.

According to him, the MP failed to use the appropriate structures in the party to seek redress of his grievance, adding that going for court injunction on the party's congress was against the party's constitution.

However, Mr Aboagye Didieye had said that he could not succumb to any threat from his regional chairman as he did not submit his form through the NDC Eastern Regional office but through the party's headquarters as a Member of Parliament, a Ghanaian and an NDC member.

'I am not someone anybody can threaten or intimidate in NDC. The party's constitution is working as well as the country's Constitution. I am only seeking for redress in court for the lies that I have withdrawn from the contest…I hate threats,' he told Okay Fm, an Accra-based radio station.
