Tepa (Ash), June 24, GNA - The Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) and the Community School Alliance (CSA) projects will end their activities in the Ahafo-Ano North district by the end of June 2004.

Mr Augustine Boadi, a Co-ordinator of QUIPS who made this known, said the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through QUIPS and CSA had invested large sums of money in improving teaching and learning in 29 primary schools in the district. This, he said, had brought about some improvement in the primary schools in the district and therefore asked the district assembly to support the programme for its sustainability. Mr Boadi was speaking at a two-day workshop on QUIPS and CSA Best Practices for 108 School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) drawn from 18 communities in the district on Thursday.

In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Akwasi Adu Poku, the Ahafo-Ano North District Chief Executive, gave the assurance that the assembly will support all educational programmes in the district so that it can improve upon its 20th position in Ashanti at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from year to year.

He therefore appealed to parents to invest more in their children's education and co-operate with teachers to ensure quality education for their wards.

Mrs Dora Amaniampong, the District Director of Education, praised USAID for making it possible through QUIPS and CSA to improve upon teaching and learning in the district.

She expressed gratitude to the government, the assembly and other development partners in education for their assistance to the development of education in the district and expressed the hope that the support will have positive impact on education in the district. Mrs Amaniampong asked the participants to share the knowledge they acquired at the workshop with their colleagues for the benefit of education delivery in the district.
