Joe Ghartey Bows Out Of NPP Race

Hon. Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado-Ketan has categorically stated that he will no longer contest for the flagbearer position in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) come October 18, 2014.

Some members of the NPP after the resounding 80.81% victory chalked by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo after Sunday's Super Delegates' election urged the rest of the contestants not to contest him on October 18.

According to some elders within the party, they (Alan Kyerematen, Osei Ameyaw, Joe Ghartey, Addai Nimoh) should rather in the spirit of unity and democracy, willingly endorse Nana Akufo-Addo to go unopposed.

Speaking in an interview on “Kokrokoo” with Kwami Sefa Kayi, Monday morning, Hon. Joe Ghartey indicated that he will no longer contest but will rather support any candidate who is elected.

'I promised the delegates that, first of all, despite whatever happens, I will not undermine the unity and integrity of the party.

“..There is nothing like waste of money in politics…it is not about money please, and at the same time it is not about a waste of time because it is working for the party.

“I will continue helping the party in various ways. I am still a loyal member of the party. I will support whoever will emerge victorious as flagbearer. Whoever will emerge the winner after October 18, I will support him,' he said.

The second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joe Ghartey polled 22 votes representing 2.97% of the total vote cast in the Super Delegates' Congress on Sunday.
