The state will on Friday, October 11 host a cultural display, poetry recitals and drama sketches to honour the memory of the late Prof Kofi Awoonor.

A statement issued in Accra Wednesday and signed by former presidential spokeperson, Koku Anyidoho on behalf of the event planning committee, said the memorial will kick off at 3pm at the National Theatre.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend the event which will see some of the late Professor's poems read by the Ghana Writers Association and the English Department of the University of Ghana.

The Ghana Dance Ensemble, the Ghana Dance Company, and other groups will also perform, with a local group from his hometown, Wheta, dishing out traditional performances.

Prof Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor was among the victims of the Al-Shabaab terror attack on Kenya's prime Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi on September 21 which claimed no less than 67 lives. He was 78 and previously served as the Chairman of the Council of State.

He has since been cremated.
