'This enables us to demonstrate our commitment to Africa. We are committed to be an integrated partner to the development process of Africa,' Mr Shiokawa said at the maiden Panasonic Africa Systems Exhibition in Kenya 's capital, Nairobi.

The exhibition was to enable the company which has a long association with Africa to showcase its latest technology and products for the consumer market, the corporate world and the public sector.

The products included Panasonic's business solutions such as fixed telephone sets, fax machines, office automation solutions, and educational solutions such as Panaboards which are digital projector boards as well as high definition communication solutions.

Other products are network and analog products, home security solutions, solar lanterns for communities not connected to electricity air conditioners infused with green and power efficiency technology  and last but not least eco solutions like ventilating fan, ceiling fan and air purifiers alike.

The Managing Director of Panasonic Marketing, Middle East and Africa, Mr Masao Motoki, said the company planned to actively promote and create new business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-governments (B2G) opportunities in Africa, while continuing to sustain its products in the traditional consumer market.

Panasonic already has business hubs in Africa, including Kenya, Angola, Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa, but wants to further expand its operations in the existing market as well as to new areas. The company has five representative offices and two manufacturing sites in Africa.

Mr Motoki said its home appliance, office automation solutions and home security products were fast growing and that the company was continually finding ways to enhance its products, adding 'we hope to eventually become a market leader in Africa.'

In addition to the representative offices, Panasonic is also planning to open signature stores across the continent, including Ghana to serve as a one-stop destination for all the consumers.

The company has such shops known as Panasonic Plaza already operational in Kenya and Nigeria.

He said Ghana and Nigeria were integral part of its Africa expansion drive and that the company's operations across Ghana would see a boost in the medium term.
