Eleventh Ghana International Book Fair launched

Accra, June 13, GNA - The 11th Ghana International Book Fair was launched in Accra on Wednesday with a call for more improvement in the reading habits of individuals.

The fair dubbed “Books and Reading in the World of the Internet” is scheduled for September 24-29 in Accra.

Mr Konadu Asare Yamoah, President of Ghana Book Publishers Association (GBPA), who launched the fair, said it had positioned itself as the convergent platform for industry practitioners, intellectuals, educationists and the public.

“We need to do purposeful reading to improve our level of understanding to boost confidence in learning and to give us self assurance in the examination room and become quality professionals in our chosen field,” he said.

Mr Yamoah said the internet was a welcome development that had made lives easier, adding that, there was the need to establish the fact that a good reading habit of the physical and electronic books was the only way to better the lives of the people.

“For the internet to be beneficial to Ghanaians in the global village market place, we need to improve upon our reading skills and culture in general.”

Mr Yamoah noted that one of the advantages of the internet to publishing had been speed which had caused publishers to take advantage of the use of the internet to bring about multiplicity of literature in the world.
