Aflao, Jun 12, GNA - A taxi cab carrying 246 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp was on Friday intercepted by Customs personnel at the Ziope barrier on the Ho/Aflao trunk road.

Godson Agblevor, 28, the driver, is in custody of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at Aflao.

Mr Francis Awatey-Ogum, a Senior Collector of Customs at Aflao, told the Ghana News Agency that on Friday the taxi travelling from Ho to Aflao was asked stop at the Wudome customs barrier near Agotime-Kpetoe but the driver sped off.

The officers then sent information to their counterparts at Ziope barrier leading to the interception of the taxi.

Mr Awatey-Ogum said Agblevor claimed he was hired in Ho by two people from Aflao whose name he could not give to convey the consignment from Kpeve-Tornu, a community on the Volta Lake to Aflao at an agreed fee of Gh¢ 250.00.

He said he was directed by the two people who were riding on a motorbike to wait at a spot at Beat Nine at Aflao where they were to collect the consignment.

Mr Awatey-Ogum said Agblevor and the substance would be handed over to the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) in Accra for further action.
