The Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II has suggested to the Electoral Commission to publish the number of registered voters constituency by constituency to prevent rigging in the December 7 general election.

The Omanhen noted that political parties would be scared to attempt rigging if they realised that the public had been made aware of the number of voters registered in each constituency.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at Apam, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea appealed to the leadership of the political parties to abide by the electoral laws to do away with suspicion and mistrust which were the bane of electoral conflict.

“If political parties could trust each other and remove suspicion from their activities, electoral conflicts would minimise”, the Omanhen pointed out.

He said Ghana was regarded as the beacon of democracy in Africa and appealed to the leaders of political parties to jealously guard this enviable record.

“Let us refrain from utterances and activities which could tarnish the country’s records,” he said.

Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea said democracy enjoined the people to elect their leaders through the ballot box and appealed to the parties to give Ghanaians the freedom to elect people of their choice to govern them.

“No one must be prevented from exercising his or her constitutional right of voting,” the Omanhen stressed.

He appealed to chiefs and church leaders to take immediate steps to resolve all petty problems in their communities before they degenerated into conflicts which could disturb national peace.

“We are in election year, therefore we must not underrate any issue,” he said. - GNA
