Peaceful election march hits Oguaa on Tuesday

A Movement for Peaceful Ghana (MOPEG) based in Cape Coast is expected to mobilise its members to march through the principal streets of the former colonial capital with the view to drawing attention of the masses about the need to hold peaceful elections this year.

A press statement signed by the Secretary of MOPEG, Isaac Kingsley Edzii said the association believed in peace and that it behoves on individuals, groups and the general public to embrace it by talking to each other to ensure peaceful elections in December 7, 2012.

The statement went on to appealed to the general public to watch actions and inactions of groups or individuals capable of derailing peaceful elections in the country.

It continued that MOPEG hoped that 2012 elections would be one of the most successful and peaceful in Ghana adding that statements purported to have been made by the NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo, such as 'All die be die', 'Yen akanfo, ye die' and 'we must win at all cost' must be critically be examined and condemned by all right thinking Ghanaians.

'MOPEG challenges all political parties irrespective of their ideological believes to respect Ghanaians and reserve to themselves comments that will inflame passions before, during and after the elections',  the statement said.

The association added that the Central Region would always support leaders who believe in true democracy from the heart but not from the mouth.
