Cape Coast, Dec. 22, GNA - Nii Amasa Namoale, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, on Wednesday commended the Central Regional fishermen for their immense support to government in its quest to attain the better Ghana agenda.

He made the commendation at a meeting with chief fishermen and their secretaries at Cape Coast to enhance cordial relations and also discuss problems they encounter in their fishing activities.

Nii Namoale was delighted at the peaceful co-existence enjoyed by the people in the region and advised them to capitalize on the peace in the region to develop their occupation.

He advised them to eschew partisan politics and remain focused on the development of the region and the country as a whole.

Nii Namoale appealed to them to work harder in order to leave the best legacy for the next generation.

He advised them to abide by the new fishery regulations, adding that the law did not belong to any political party and that any one found guilty would be dealt with.

Nii Namoale assured them that the new regulations would be translated into the various local languages for easy understanding.

He appealed to them to be proactive in the payment of the outboard motors given to them on credit by the government in order to provide more for other fishermen.

He advised them to get involved in the ongoing registration of canoes to enhance identification of canoes on sea.

Several concerns were raised during the open forum which include the creation of landing beaches from Tema to Takoradi and separate day for fishermen to be honoured.
