THERE WAS spontaneous and massive jubilation in Kumasi following Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's victory in Saturday's New Patriotic Party's election for a standing bearer.

At about 3:30pm barely thirty minutes after the results of the polls held throughout all the 39 constituencies in the region and 230 nationwide started trickling in; elated supporters of the party started jubilating.

Displaying their party's colours of red, white and blue, supporters of the largest opposition political party were seen in ecstatic moods, as taxi drivers too were seen driving at top speed and tooting their horns.

The some areas in the Garden City including Asafo, Krofrom, Ash Town and Bantama, were almost on fire with jubilations for Nana Addo's historic victory when results of the polls started coming in around 4:30pm.

For once, the serene areas like Paraku Estate, Atasemanso, Asokwa, Patase, Nhyiaeso and Ahodwo which hitherto looked quiet were involved in the wild jubilations.

As some of them were jumping and shouting on top of their voices, other equally blissful-looking NPP faithful were seen chanting 'Nana Akufo-Addo Ghana's next president,' 'Nana Akufo-Addo no size,' just to mention a few.

Some of the thrilled NPP fans even went to the extent of risking their lives by sitting on top of speeding cars to display their love for Nana Akufo-Addo's victory.

The excited supporters insisted the results across the country pointed to the fact that the NPP had once again settled on Nana Addo to lead it to wrest power from the fumbling NDC government.

“My brother put your pen and paper somewhere and join us to celebrate Nana Akufo-Addo's historic victory,” Oheneba Edmund Kwarteng, Chairman of Nana Addo for President (NAFOP) 2012 told DAILY GUIDE.

Oheneba Kwarteng added “we did a well orchestrated campaign across the region and we are expecting nothing less than 70% win for Nana Akufo-Addo in this region.”

Nana Akufo-Addo obtained 13,290 of total votes cast representing 74.95% followed by Alan Kyerematen with 4,144 votes representing 23.37%.

At 6:00pm, all the results in the Ashanti region had been announced with Nana Akufo-Addo winning 38 out of the 39 constituencies.

The announcement perhaps intensified the jubilant mood of the NPP supporters and for a moment, one could not distinguish between NPP supporters and those of Nana Addo, as every member of the party was seen jubilating as if the NPP had wrested power from the NDC already.

Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta, Manhyia Constituency Youth Organizer told DAILY GUIDE “we are happy because we have shamed our foes especially the NDC who said we would disintegrate after congress.”

Describing Nana Akufo-Addo's victory as 'victory for the NPP,' Ofori Atta noted the NPP was more united than ever.
