Liberty splits points with Faisal
February 14, 2010
Accra , Feb. 14, GNA - Dansoman Liberty Professionals came from behind to hold visiting Kumasi King Faisal to a 1-1 drawn game in their Week 18 Glo Premier League encounter at the Carl Reindorf Park, Dansoman on Sunday.

A second half spirited performance did the trick for the hosts who were on the verge of tasting their first loss of the second round.

Faisal had the better of the exchanges of a scrappy first half that saw both teams struggle with ball control due to the rain-soaked pitch.

As both teams laboured in search of their rhythm, it was Faisal who stunned the sizable home crowd with the opener on 26 minutes through striker Micky Ofosu who delivered a grounder that left Liberty goalie Akwasi Acheampong with no option.

Liberty's Guinean duo of Sylla Foda and Capi Soumah met in Faisal a solid defensive pair of Ransford Kwakye and Awudu Nafiu as their toughest customers yet, as they were held in constant check from doing any harm.

Sylla has so far been the scorer of four goals in his two previous games but was this time round given no breather and had to be replaced by Latif Salifu in the latter stages of the first half after being at the receiving end of a knock.

On the stroke of half time, Liberty were rewarded with perhaps their best chance for the opener but midfielder Kassenu Ghandy was unlucky in his quest to draw equal to the task as his volley kissed the cross bar and bounced back into play.

The efforts of the 'Scientific Soccer Lads' later yielded dividends early in the second half when Capi soared to nod home in the 57th minute from Richard Kissi 's cross from the left flank.

The remainder of the game belonged to Liberty as they pinned their guests to their half but they yet failed to break through the Kwakye and Nafiu combination at the back to carry the day.

Faisal's goalie, Ibrahim Iddrisu scored full marks with an acrobatic save of Kissi's goal bound shot on 75 minutes, whilst his Liberty counterpart Acheampong also made light work of substitute Joseph Masel's half volley seven minutes later but all that was not enough either side the maximum points till the final whistle.
