Saboba, (N/R), July 16, GNA - Mr. Moses Mabengba, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to promote cultural values which are vital to the unity and development of the country.

He urged Ghanaians to promote values that would help eliminate illiteracy, ignorance, indiscipline and poverty in the society.

Mr. Mabengba was addressing the 11th Regional Basic Schools Inter District Festival of Arts at Saboba in the Northern Region on Tuesday.

He expressed concern over the extent to which negative foreign cultural values had brought indiscipline, selfishness, indecency and irresponsibility among the Ghanaian youth, particularly in schools and called for conscious efforts to re-inculcate traditional moral values into the youth.

The Deputy Minister said government was promoting and supporting the organization of cultural programmes.

He commended the Ghana Education Service for the role it continues to play in sustaining cultural festivals in schools through the organization of the inter-schools festival of arts.

Bowan Kwadiin Tibortang, Regent of the Saboba, appealed to the government to support institutions that promote culture and advised the youth to take the culture of their people seriously.
