Tamale, June 30, GNA - Mr Angwubutoge Awuni, Northern Regional Police Commander has advised students from the three northern regions to be ambassadors of peace in their respective communities to facilitate development.

He said the situation where money allocated by government for the development of the area was rather diverted for the upkeep of security personnel who maintained peace in the area needed to be reversed.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Awuni gave the advice in Tamale at the weekend when he addressed the Tamale Polytechnic branch of BONABOTO to swear in new executives of the association.

BONABOTO is an acronym for Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo and Tongo and a mouth piece for the youth from those areas to champion the course of development and welfare of the people.

ACP Awuni advised the students to form groups and preach peace during their holiday breaks to encourage their leaders and elders to stay away from conflicts and help develop their communities.

He said the area needed infrastructure development such as schools, clinics, hospitals and industries to improve the living standards of the people to make them stay at home instead of migrating to southern cities in search of non-existent jobs.

Lieutenant Colonel J.A. Aphor, Commanding Officer of the 6th Infantry Battalion asked female students not to rush into marriage but should pursue their educational careers to the highest level to make them economically viable.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Abagna Caesar, Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander admonished the students to remain disciplined and law-abiding, and guard against student disturbances for others to emulate.

Mr Awuni later swore the five-member executive into office and presented certificates to the out-going executives while an appeal for funds yielded GH¢170.00.
