Join forces to fight ills in society

The Reverend Otuo Acheampong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has urged Christians to bury their doctrinal differences and join forces to fight the ills in society.

He observed that with the practice of ethnic politics on the ascendancy, armed robbery, road accidents, unemployment, commercialization of the Gospel and global economic crisis, political leaders and stakeholders looked up to the church for direction and solution.

Rev. Acheampong was speaking at the 87th Asante Presbytery Meeting of the Church in Kumasi on Saturday.

It was on the theme, “Put On the Whole Armour of God”.

He stressed the need for church leaders to fulfill the great commission by intensifying evangelism and unadulterated propagation of the gospel to wipe away social vices in the Ghanaian society.

Rev Acheampong expressed concern that ethnicity with its attendant discrimination had in recent times made life unbearable for some citizens and explained that, unless “we saw ourselves as one people it will be difficult to enhance unity and understanding in the society”.

The Chairperson tasked the church members to use the meeting to renew their faith in God and lead exemplary lives to protect the image of Christendom.

Mr Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim North and a Presbyter of the Church, challenged the Presbytery to endeavour to prioritise formal education by initiating proactive educational projects to advance and enhance members' literacy rate.
