Man behaves strangely in court

  Sat, 28 Feb 2009

Wilson Nifatu, standing trial at the Asamankese Circuit Court for stealing some items from the Suhum market on Friday caused a stir when he hit his head against the dock and started to behave strangely.

Immediately he was called into the dock for the start of the trial, Nifatu hit his head on the wooden dock and spoke a strange language, throwing his hand into the air.

Mr Emmanuel Siame, the judge, then asked that he should be sent to hospital.

Police Chief Inspector, Ben Brew, prosecuting, told the court that Nifatu was normal but was pretending to be insane.

The Judge ordered that the accused should be kept in police custody after his hospital visit and to be put before the court again on March 2.
