An educationist has observed that given the needed motivation teachers can prepare students of Senior High Schools (SHS) to successfully complete their programme in three years.
Mrs. Beatrice Rosina Boakye Ansah Prempeh, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education who made the observation, emphasized that with an attractive remuneration, the teacher can work above himself or herself to make good any educational programme.
“I am of the view that teachers can make a difference and that if teachers are well-catered for by way of attractive remuneration, they would put in their maximum effort which could make students complete the SHS programme successfully in three years”.
Speaking at a forum on the theme; “the state in pursuit of quality and relevant education delivery” at Obuasi, Mrs. Prempeh said emphasis should be placed on addressing the frustrations of teachers instead of extension of time for the completion of an academic programme.
She said the nation could not achieve quality education delivery when teachers were faced with myriad of problems relating to their salaries and general conditions of service.
The Municipal Director pointed out that some teachers who were upgraded to the Principal Superintendent and Assistant Director II grades over a year ago had not received their promotion letters, whilst some of them who received their were confronted with the problem of salary adjustment.
Mrs Prempeh added that the release of results of promotion interviews unduly delayed creating a lot of anxieties for the teacher whilst the payment of salary arrears too constitute another headache for the teaching personnel.
She added that the current situation where suddenly some teachers had their names deleted fro payrolls without any reason and to get them reactivated too posed difficulties was compounding the frustration of teachers.
Mrs Prempeh wondered how the State could talk about quality and relevant education delivery when teachers continued to “be frustrated day in day out”.
She therefore appealed to the government top see to the general well-being of teachers, especially in the areas of payment of salaries and promotions to the various grades.
“It is my hope that action will be expedite on the results of promotion interviews conducted and that appropriate letters will be issued out in good time”, the Municipal Director added.
