-About 800 needy and under privileged farmers in the Amansie West District of Ashanti at the weekend were given cash totalling several thousands of Ghana Cedis to help alleviate their plight.

The cash was donated by the World Bank in collaboration with the Government of Ghana, under the Emergency Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), programme.

Each beneficiary was given an amount of ¢GH 30.00.

The monies were paid through the Department of Social Welfare and Ghana Post and the beneficiary communities included Nyamebekyere, Menhaedan, Pakyi Number Six and Seven, Subinso-Adubiaso, Domeabra and Nipankyeremia.

Making the presentation at a ceremony at Domeabra, Mr. Stephen Adongo, National Director of the Department of Social Welfare, pointed out that the beneficiaries included flood victims and farmers who experienced food insecurity as a result of drought.

He entreated the beneficiaries to take very good care of the monies and not misuse them to help justify the purpose for which they were being given.
