Death Threats on top NPP man

The life of a leading member of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region, George Ayisi Boateng, is in serious danger, as operatives of the National Democratic Congress have allegedly hatched a diabolical plan to liquidate him.

The operatives have accused Mr. Boateng of masterminding the demolition of a gym near the Kumasi Polytechnic where NDC macho men used to do their workouts and operated by a notorious NDC agent simply known as "C.D.'

His accusers also blame him for foiling their plans to steal ballot boxes at Asokore Mampong during the 2000 elections which catapulted NPP to power after 30 years in political wilderness.

To the NDC operatives, with the return of the NDC to power it is now pay back time for the likes of Ayisi Boateng.

Narrating his ordeal to this reporter, Ayisi Boateng, who once served as chairman of the finance committee of the NPP in the region, said about a week ago he had a call on his cell phone from someone who identified himself as "CD', accusing him of influencing the destruction of his gym and also harassing him and his group in the 2008 elections on trumped up charges of attempting to snatch ballot boxes at Asokore Mampong, a suburb of Kumasi.

The man allegedly told him that at that time he could not do anything in retaliation since his party, the NDC, had lost power and now that the party has won power, he was going to take his pound of flesh and even if he reports to the police, he is not going to be saved and the Police cannot touch him (CD).

Ayisi Boateng said he called the number two days later but did not get through apparently because the caller had thrown away the chip.

He said just last Tuesday, he was told that the said CD was on a Kumasi Radio station, FOX FM, claiming that he led a gang to inflict cutlass wounds on Ekow Sackey, Assemblyman for Asem electoral area, on political grounds and that he (Ayisi Boateng) was next in line.

According to Ayisi Boateng, he reported the matter to the Zongo Police but was directed to the Buffalo unit and eventually he reported the matter to the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kwaku Ayensu Opare Addo who assured him that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

Meanwhile, Ayisi Boateng has told this reporter that he would not be cowed by such threats, adding that he survived the heady and heinous AFRC/PNDC era and would definitely survive under the NDC.

Waxing philosophical, he quoted Shakespeare: 'Cowards die many times before their deaths, but the Valiant dies but once' and challenged those faceless people threatening him to come out of their hiding places.

He admitted that in the 2008 elections, he and a few others foiled attempts by a gang associated with the NDC to snatch ballot boxes, adding, however, that he was neither the KMA boss nor the Regional Minister to have ordered the demolition of a gym or any property.
