One person died on the spot and another sustained injuries on Monday when a truck traveling from Kpone towards Accra, veered off the road and ran into people at a fuel filling station car park, near the Tema Motorway roundabout.
The dead, a woman was identified as Abiba Iassah, but the injured, a man has not yet been identified.
He was pushed into a gutter by the truck and was taken to the Tema General Hospital. The driver of the truck with registration number GR5153V escaped from the scene.
An eye witness told the Times that at about 4.25am, the woman, who alighted from a bus was moving away carrying a load of milk products locally called 'Wagashi'.
He said the driver of the truck which was loaded with iron rods apparently lost control of the steering wheel and glazed the side of a stationary truck before knocking down its victims. The truck came to a halt after breaking down a wooden electric pole.
Chief Inspector Gabriel Dzitornu of the Teme Regional police Motor Traffic Unit said that a search had been mounted for the run-away driver while investigation into the accident was being conducted.
