NDC chases Ex-soldiers

By Daily Guide

THE OPPOSITION National Democratic Congress' (NDC's) agenda to intimidate voters on election day has been uncovered, as the party is said to be recruiting ex-soldiers sympathetic to its cause to serve as party agents in the December polls in order to instill fear in voters and genuine security operatives on the D-day.'If these ex-soldiers turn up as polling station agents, the police and the military cannot intimidate them,' former President and NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings revealed at an NDC forum on Thursday, where he accused President John Agyekum Kufuor of masterminding the killing of Rokko Frimpong, former deputy Managing Director of  the Ghana Commercial Bank.

Mr Rawlings also dropped a hint of the possibility of using his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, as a polling agent if it becomes necessary.

The former President, who has a penchant for castigating every government except his despotic regimes, accused the Kufuor administration of illegally and deliberately distributing arms to civilians all over the country to intimidate the electorate because the ruling party knows it would lose the December elections.

The NPP, according to him, has brought injustice never before witnessed in the history of the country and that there would never be peace if there is no justice.

'Justice is all that I ask for; tell Kufuor to come from his trip and give his bed to Tsatsu and the food he eats to Ghanaians and there will be peace,' he charged.

Mr Rawlings also accused the people of the Central Region of receiving money from President Kufuor during the 2004 elections in order to ditch Prof Mills who comes from the region.

According to the NDC founder, Prof Mills was doing well in the region until President Kufuor allegedly influenced the Fantes with stolen money, swaying the election to his advantage.

He alleged that the Kufuor administration was behind the unfortunate murder of Mr Rokko Frimpong, which occurred on June 26, 2006 at his Community 18 residence in Tema.

The ever ranting former President did not even know that five persons had since been arrested and arraigned before court in connection with the murder.

The accused persons were Samuel McCarthy, alias Tugah, 25; William Agbavor, alias Willie, 29; Atta Kakra, 26; Foster Kwame Boakye, 23 and Francis Ankobeah, alias Nana Sei, 26.

Rawlings urged the party's supporters to vote out the NPP for failing to provide Ghanaians with the peace and development they desire, claiming that all that he told his supporters was the truth and he should not be doubted.

'Why are they killing people, killing people here? They killed the Commercial Bank Manager before the demonetization exercise. Did you know they even killed a senior officer a night or two before because they rounded up all the security subordinates and warned them about something…? So today, if I now want to remind you about the killings that they have been involved in, you still want to doubt me?' Rawlings asked his audience who responded with a thumping 'No!' and shouts of 'JJ, JJ Ogboo; you be champion'.

Earlier, some bigwigs of the NDC including John Dramani Mahama, the running mate to Professor Mills; Dr. Ekwow-Spio Garbrah, a defeated NDC presidential aspirant; Hudu Yahaya, Dr. Tony Aidoo; and Fiifi Kwetey, took turns to address party supporters on what they described as setting the records straight.

John Mahama and Spio, for instance, stated that the Ghanaian media has been compromised by the Kufuor administration and that most journalists do not see anything wrong with the current government.

'The media has been compromised with cars in order not to speak', Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah alleged, whilst John Mahama stated that praise singing of the government by the media has given the ruling party a false hope that everything was well.

According to the NDC running mate, the reality on the ground is that the NPP is losing this year's elections and that they should start preparing their handover notes.

A former General Secretary of the NDC, Hudu Yahaya stated that 'the PNDC was built on justice for all Ghanaians' and that 'it set for itself accountability and equality before the law, high social values of social feeling, discipline and high level of moral foundation'.

Fiifi Kwetey, the Propaganda Secretary of the NDC stretched his usual confrontation to the founding fathers of the political tradition of the ruling party, virtually defiling them like supine virgins.

Dr. J.B. Danquah, Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia, Obetsebi-Lamptey and Edward Akufo-Addo, the father of Nana Akufo-Addo who were all icons in Ghana's political history and who are now lying quietly in the bosom of the Lord, were the targets of indecent attacks by the NDC's chief propagandist.

Fiifi Kwetey, who did not only exhibit poor moral etiquette but also defied the well entrenched African culture of not saying evil about the dead, described Dr. J.B. Danquah as 'an unrepentant CIA agent who was prepared to sell our destiny to foreigners and if J.B. Danquah was a CIA agent, Dr. Busia, another founding father of the NPP, was actually not different from Osama Bin Laden'.

He also placed Obetsebi-Lamptey in the category of Dr. Busia, both of whom the NDC propagandist said were worse than the Saudi-born terrorist, Osama Bin Laden.

'As a matter of fact, Osama Bin Laden is a little better because at least, in the case of Osama Bin Laden, before he gives you a bomb as a young man he makes sure you are committed to wanting to commit suicide but what does Busia do? He procures the bombs, he purchases the bombs and put it in the hands of little children to bomb people because he wants power.

If you have a man who turns himself into a devil and who is prepared to kill innocent people for power then you should know the sort of people who have been lying to us all these years', he charged.

Whilst the Propaganda Secretary was running riot, one could see John Mahama and Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah feeling uncomfortable with the unscrupulous attacks on the helpless dead souls and at a point, Spio scribbled something on paper and handed it over to Fiifi but that apparent little piece of caution could not prevent the NDC hatchet man from carrying out his contrived agenda.

Fiifi Kwetey made these scathing attacks, according to him, to disprove the statement by the NPP flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that he believes in Ghana.

He stressed that Nana Addo cannot believe in Ghana when his forebearers were agents who were interested in selling the country to foreigners.

He said Nana Addo cannot claim to be a democrat when his father served as a Chief Justice in a military regime.
