The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has noted that amongst the various governments that Ghana has had, the NPP stands tall as the best manager of the economy.

He stated that the records of the NPP government since January 2001 place it among the best governments the world can boast of. He has therefore urged Ghanaians to embrace the party wholeheartedly for it to carry out the development policies and programmes that have brought the country to its present state.

Addressing a rally at the forecourt of the Ndewura Jakpa Palace at Damongo, Dr Bawumia told the charged crowd that Ghana is moving forward to a new economic dimension which can make or unmake the society, depending on which choice is made in the coming elections. "This election is a simple choice between building on what has been established, and taking us back to the era of destruction.

"It is choice for moving into the future with hope and confidence or one that will take us to the unknown. And this simple choice is embodied in a choice for the NPP or a choice for the NDC. The NPP, and its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, with me as his right-hand man, represent that choice where all Ghanaians can be certain about the future- development in freedom for all", he emphasised.

The former Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana said that the challenges confronting the country in her bid for development demanded leadership which thinks big, and that there was no way one could get such big thinkers outside the NPP.

"Our records show that we of the NPP think big that is why we are able to do big things within this short period that many politicians thought was impossible, considering our economic situation then. But we have proved them wrong that it is not the size of your resources that matter s but it is about how big you think to utilise the little you have", he stressed.

He pointed out that his nomination as Akufo-Addo's running mate is an honour for all northerners in particular, especially the youth. "This honour is an opportunity for us to come together as one people with a common interest of developing our society. We need not fail our people this time...let us show to the world that we have what it takes to bring employment opportunities for our able young people who drift to the south in search of non-existing jobs and end up wasting their potentials as "kayayos," he urged.

Earlier in the Yagbonwura"s Palace, he called on the people to support the unity forged between Boniface Sadique Abubakar and Lepowura M N D Jawula upon which he is depending on for the development of the area.

He noted that he can never achieve anything without the support of the Gonja people, noting that "we can only develop our land when there is peace, unity and tolerance in everything thing we do."

On his part the Yagbonwura noted that the selection of Dr Bawumia is a manifestation of the good work his late father did as a politician and statesman.

He indicated that it is important for the running-mate to discharge is duties diligently to meet the hopes and aspirations of the people of Ghana. He said: "This election is crucial", noting that the people of Gonja and the entire nation can "trust you to discharge your duties with diligence by talking about issues that promote peace, unity and development."
