SMC and PTA at Akwasiase attend workshop on preventive maintenance

About 20 members of School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Akwasiase in the Ahafo-Ano North District have attended an eight-day workshop on preventive maintenance of school infrastructure.
Speaking at the closing ceremony Mrs Naana Abudu, the District Director of Education, said under the government policy on Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme, some initiatives including construction and rehabilitation of classroom blocks, libraries, teachers' accommodation and places of conveniences are being undertaken.
She said for these initiatives to achieve the desire results, there was the need to strengthen supervision and management capacities in schools hence the training of the participants in schools' administration, management and maintenance with emphasis on preventive maintenance.
Mrs Abudu appealed to the participants to use the skills they have acquired to ensure that all children have access to education with qualitative teaching and learning in the area.
Mr P.K. Buah, the SMC chairman, thanked the education directorate for selecting Akwasiase as the first community in the district to benefit from the training workshop.
He appealed to the district assembly and the education directorate to hand over the new Junior High School block build under the Community-based Rural Development Programme (CBRDP) for use as the old block is in a very deplorable condition.
