Over GH¢200,000 disbursed as Capitation Grant in Obuasi Municipality

Obuasi, May 14, GNA– A total of over 200,000 Ghana cedis have been disbursed as Capitation Grant to public basic schools in the Obuasi Municipality since the 2005-2006 academic year.
Out of the amount, a total of 80,287 Ghana cedis were received in the 2005-2006 academic year whilst a total of 90,582 Ghana cedis was received in the 2006-2007 academic year.
Mrs. Beatrice Boakye-Ansah Prempeh, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Obuasi, said the directorate received the first disbursement of 29,265 Ghana cedis for this academic year in February.
She said the amount was distributed amongst 34 kindergartens, 59 primary and 32 junior high schools in the municipality.
Mrs. Prempeh said information on the grant should be made public adding that it was important for stakeholders in education to be informed about disbursement of the grant.
She said the directorate was making photocopies of handouts on the grant for distribution, especially to School Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Associations.
Mrs. Prempeh advised school authorities to ensure judicious use of the grant to help improve academic work.
She commended heads of schools in the area for applying the grant wisely.
