Assembly Institutes Measures To Enhance Pupils' Performance

The West Akyem Municipal Assembly and the Education directorate are taking steps to solve the problems of pupils poor performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Mr. Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, Municipal Chief Executive, has said.

Addressing a meeting of the assembly at Asamankese last Friday, he said headteachers who were not performing creditably and had stayed at one school for over ten years will be transferred.

Mr. Sintim Aboagye said a performance agreement would be signed between the education director and all headteachers of public basic schools.

The teacher’s award scheme would be based strictly on performance, he stressed.

'With solid infrastructure base toward the development of education in the municipality, we as parents, guardians and stakeholders cannot afford to let the education of our children degenerate further than what is presently pertaining,' he added.

Mr. Sintim Aboagye said the zero per cent scored by some schools in the previous BECE should be a thing of the past adding, 'We must therefore put our shoulders to the wheel to ensure that educational standards are improved and sustained'.

He said the assembly has manufactured about 16,000 pieces of furniture for distribution to public basic schools in the municipality.

He said the assembly was also manufacturing 2,000 pieces of dual desks and 8,000 pieces of mono desks for the schools.

Mr. Sintim Aboagye said the assembly had constructed a number of school buildings to ensure that children had decent places to learn.
