A special unit is to be set up at the office of the Chief of Staff to investigate individuals and organisations found to have illegally and dishonestly acquired government vehicles meant for official duties. This follows increasing media reports of scandals including the increasing number of government vehicles that are reported missing from various agencies and departments.

Culprits in such deals will either be forced to pay for the market price of the vehicles in their possession, surrender them or prosecuted. The ‘Evening News’ newspaper quotes a source as saying that the cases of missing cars took place shortly before the assumption of the NPP administration.

Commenting on cars that were taken away by ex-Ministers of the NDC government, which generated much debate, the source said some of them have paid while others have decided not to pay. It did not however state the measures that will be taken against those who have not paid.
