A 42-year-old mason,Sam Afari, is assisting the Winneba Police in investigations into how he injured his mother's nose with a small axe at Winneba.

The Winneba District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye, told newsmen that around 4:15pm on March 25, there was a misunderstanding between Afari and his cousin Cynthia Acquah over the use of a coal pot.

He said this resulted in a quarrel during which Afari became annoyed and threw Cynthia's soup on the coal pot on the ground and entered his room.

ASP Quaye said Cynthia who not happy with Afari's action, insulted him and when he was coming out from his room ostensibly to beat her, his mother who saw him alerted Cynthia and she managed to run away.

He said Afari who became furious with his mother's action went back to his room and picked an axe from his tools box and mercilessly hit his mother's nose with it three times.

ASP Quaye said Afari's mother fell down unconscious and was rushed to the Winneba Government Hospital where she was admitted and reported to be responding to treatment while Afari was arrested by the police for investigations.
