Snakes Seize Police Toilet

THE LIVES of personnel of the Anyirawase Police in the Volta Region are reportedly in danger, following the presence of snakes in their toilet at night.

The unfortunate situation is as a result of the dilapidated toilet structure, built with corrugated iron sheets with several openings, which makes it possible for snakes to run in and out of it.

Apart from the danger posed by the deplorable toilet facility, it also exposes the nudity of those who use it.

The situation came to light during DAILY GUIDE's visit to the station.

A source close to the police station told the paper that although the station was faced with numerous problems, especially in terms of infrastructure, the nature of the toilet was of more concern to them as wives and children of officers had to always battle with snakes in order to use the place. The source indicated that the situation becomes even more embarrassing when visitors want to attend nature's call.

He recalled an instance where he showed a visitor the structure and he (visitor) came back shortly afterwards that he could not find the toilet, apparently because he could not imagine that such a structure was being used as a toilet.

According to the source, as a law enforcement agency the police need to be effectively resourced so that in enforcing the law the public would not identify their weaknesses and undermine their integrity.

“How can the police effectively support sanitary inspectors in the execution of their duties if they themselves do not take measures to enhance the sanitary condition at their station,” he queried.

He therefore appealed to the appropriate authorities to urgently provide the station with a modern toilet facility before they start losing their lives. From Edem Adesi, Ho
