The Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Prof. Isaac Boadi, has expressed concern that the publication of names in the Charles Amissah investigative report is placing significant pressure on some health workers.
He noted that there is a delicate balance between ensuring public accountability and protecting professionals who are still subject to ongoing investigative and disciplinary processes.
His comments follow the release of findings by a committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah, who is reported to have died after being denied emergency care at three hospitals in Accra.
Prof. Boadi said some of the doctors and nurses named in the report are already experiencing public backlash.
“The names that were mentioned are receiving threats through social media,” he stated.
He warned that such public pressure could have serious emotional and professional implications for medical personnel who remain on active duty.
“These doctors may have been on duty the next day. Some may even have surgeries scheduled,” he said on the AM Show on JoyNews.
Prof. Boadi further questioned whether it would have been more appropriate to conclude the full disciplinary process before releasing the identities of those involved.
“Maybe the entire process could have been completed before the report was released,” he added.
He stressed, however, that the broader national conversation should remain centred on addressing systemic weaknesses in the healthcare delivery system.
