A Senior Vice President of the IMANI Africa policy think tank, Kofi Bentil has proposed a possible solution to the recent internet outages experienced in some parts of Africa including Ghana.

He asserted that starlink is the future and the way for internet access around the world and could be the solution if adopted.

“STARLINK…I’ve been telling you about this for some time now. That’s the future and the way! Is anyone listening??” he wrote via Facebook on Friday, March 15.

Starlink is the world's first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more.

However, Starlink, which is owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX is not available in Ghana.

The National Communications Authority says it does not approved of its operations.

Internet Outages
Major internet and data disruptions are being experienced across parts of West and Central African countries following faults on multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international internet traffic.

According to a statement by Ghana's telecommunications regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA), faults on undersea cables in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and Portugal have led to "a significant degradation of data services across the country."

Reports indicate that other countries like South Africa, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia are also experiencing internet disruptions due to the same fault.

Internet users across the affected countries have complained about poor connectivity as well as downtime of various online services.

Businesses relying on internet connections have also suffered.
