The Omanhene of Dormaa Akwamu in the Dormaa East District, Barima Oppong Kyeremeh Sikafuo, has advised recently elected Assembly Members, government appointees, and Unit Committee Members to prioritize the welfare of the people and the advancement of the district over personal interests.

Nana has also urged them to devise strategies to address the proliferation of drinking spots and other social challenges in the area.

He shared these insights during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of 32 elected and appointed Assembly Members held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Wamfie.

Among the members, there are 21 elected representatives and 9 appointees, including four women, one elected member, three appointed members, and one person with a disability.

Barima Oppong Kyeremeh Sikafuo underscored the significance of leadership roles, emphasizing that elections and appointments reflect the trust and confidence people have in their representatives, which should not be taken lightly.

He urged the Assembly Members to prioritize efforts to combat poor sanitation, promote good governance, and foster peace through unity and collaboration.

In a message delivered by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Murtala Braimah, President Akufo Addo charged Assembly Members to align with the government's programs and projects aimed at economic and social development for the period 2022 to 2025. These initiatives include initiatives for job creation, prosperity, and equal opportunities for all, stressing the importance of working closely with District Chief Executives and local leaders to implement these plans effectively.

Following the inauguration, the Assembly conducted an election for a Presiding Member, but no candidate secured the required two-thirds majority in two attempts. Both Hon. Sylvester Preprah, an elected member from Wamanafo Sabikrom, and the incumbent Hon. Daniel Acquah, a government appointee, fell short of the necessary support.
