Former President, John Dramani Mahama has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of hijacking the recruitment into various security services.

During an engagement at Zuarungu in Bolgatanga East on Friday, January 2, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said he will ensure this changes when he becomes President after the 2024 General Elections.

According to him, recruitment into the security services under the next NDC government will be decentralised to ensure Ghanaian youth in all parts of the country have equal opportunities to serve the country.

“We are going to decentralise recruitment into the security services. You are not going to come all the way to Accra to be recruited. When it’s time for recruiting into the army, into the police, immigration, and prisons, we will come region by region. The people will come here and come and do the recruitment here in the Upper East Region because we want to give all Ghanaian youth a fair chance of being recruited.

“So, they will do the recruitments regionally instead of the centralized recruitment that we currently do. Apart from that we are going to advertise it,” John Dramani Mahama said.

The former President continued, “For the past three years they have been recruiting people but the NPP government does not advertise. They just take protocol names and they call them to take them into the services. We are going to change that and make the opportunity for all of us and our children to have the chance to serve in the security.”

John Dramani Mahama is currently in the Upper East Region as part of his Building Ghana Tour.

He has assured that the next NDC government will prioritise the security of the people living in Bawku and its environment by doing everything possible to address the age-old violence.
